Okyo

Okyo

With the increase in individuals working from home, the risk involved with un-secured devices keeps growing. Okyo, a new sub-brand by Palo Alto Networks, was created with the sole purpose of bringing enterprise-grade cybersecurity to homes and small businesses. The design work was created to package extremely powerful equipment and tools into simple, approachable designs that were easy to use and approachable. As the principle ID, I was in charge of all things physical (product, packaging, documentation) as well as any supplementary 3D visuals needed.

Main Product

When I joined the team a design was already in the works and it was my task to get it across the finish line. A lot of the work was centered around fixing surfaces, solving ongoing overheating issues through design, and smaller details like lighting execution.

Packaging

In addition, there was an initial proposed packaging solution for in-store execution however details were still missing. In addition, a direct to consumer packaging solution needed to be designed from the ground up.

UX & In-App Animations

I worked directly with engineering to provide timing, pulse, radial width and exact RGB LED colors for the device. Separately, I provided the UX/UI team with 3D renderings for in-app animations.

ID Guidelines

Seeing as this was the start of what was meant to be a range of different at home devices, I created design guidelines for the larger team to follow. The goal was to get early alignment with the interdisciplinary teams on the direction I sought to take the industrial design. I created a 50+ page document from scratch, covering all aspects that would apply to future hardware. That included form, CMF, packaging, user facing documents and printed graphics, and much more.
