After HP’s first foray into a genuine wood notebook, we sought to learn from our first attempt and evolve the design further. We retained the warmth provided by the wooden palmrest, but redesigned the entire chassis to integrate the material further into the functions of the notebook. This resulted in a completely new gesture that heavily centers and elevates the primary areas of interaction on the notebooks, while also closely aligning the clamshell and convertible form factors for an ultimately more unified Envy brand.

 We wanted to make the material feel more structural, something the original lamination process was incapable of. To solve this, we re-engineered the wooden process using insert molding to raise and reveal the wood above the normal keyboard deck. We

We wanted to make the material feel more structural, something the original lamination process was incapable of. To solve this, we re-engineered the wooden process using insert molding to raise and reveal the wood above the normal keyboard deck. We used the learnings from the previous generation to seamlessly integrate the touchpad interaction into the material, using the new process to tightly control the texturing and grain.
