HP Envy (2019)
The Envy series (both clamshell and convertible) serve as the entry level premium devices in HP’s consumer lineup. The goal of this evolution was to introduce warm, natural feeling premium materials into the lineup. I served as the industrial designer tasked with executing on this design concept. This included determining the best process to integrate a real wood insert into the palmrest and touchpad experience. Extensive time was spent working with engineering and vendors to adjust the color, texture, and grain of the natural wood material, making sure it both looked and felt premium throughout the product’s lifetime. In addition, there was extensive collaboration with the clickpad vendor to provide a experience that supported all of the natural gestures and interactions of Windows, across all of the infinite variations of wood grains that would naturally occur in the Walnut and Birch veneers.
